KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 (Bernama) — Lightning damaged the runway of the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang here during a heavy rainstorm Tuesday afternoon causing three FireFly flights to be disrupted.
Malaysia Airlines Holdings Berhad (MAHB) senior general manager (Operations) Datuk Azmi Murad said two holes, each measuring 0.37 square metre, occurred on the runway as a result of lightning bolts during the storm.
“This resulted in a FireFly flight from Terengganu to be diverted to Penang while flights originating from Kota Bharu and Penang were ordered to turn back to their respective airports, ” he told Bernama.
He said MAHB’s quick action in repairing the damage with premixed cement enabled the airport to resume operations by 6pm.
