The My Selangor Story bloggers competition had already been launched and officiated by the Selangor Chairperson of Standing Committee of Tourism, Consumer Affairs, and Environment, YB Elizabeth Wong who had hoped that the competition will help promote Selangor as a destination for tourists. She had proudly declared that the first half of this year has seen more than three million visitors to Selangor.

The competition is for all active personal bloggers who are residents of Malaysia, Singapore or Indonesia, and who have an interest in travelling and a taste for adventure. To qualify all the bloggers need to do is to upload a 60-second video introduction of themselves on YouTube to convince the judging committee to pick them. Alternatively, they could send in a 300-word (no more) essay. Additionally, they have to register themselves by filling in the entry form on the My Selangor Story website, attach the link to the form, and wait for the call from the organizer.

The 30 shortlisted bloggers will compete by churning out the best documentation of their trip – their own original version of their Selangor story. They will be judged based on the following criteria: their creativity in presenting their adventures in Selangor; the popularity of their blogs in terms of traffic flow and comments; the entertainment value and quality of the audiovisual uploads of their activities; and most importantly, the relevancy of their commentary on their Selangor travel experience.

During their four-days trip, the bloggers will be required to create a daily three-minute video diary that documents their activities for the day, which will be uploaded on YouTube, and its link posted on the official My Selangor Story website. Readers will vote for their favourite blog on the same website too, and the judges will then decide which blogger deserves to win the Grand Prize of RM2,500 plus a return trip for two, to visit Selangor once again, and a Pentax camera worth RM1,099, among others. Prizes will also be awarded to the first runner-up and the second runner-up. Other prizes include the most creative blog; the best write-up; the best video; the most interactive blog; and the best photos.

Firefly has sponsored 10 flight tickets for the Indonesian participants on the Medan-Subang-Medan sector; and another 10 flight tickets for the Singaporean participants on the Singapore-Subang-Singapore sector where their arrivals into Subang is scheduled on 23rd September 2010.

Additionally, we are also sponsoring 10 flight tickets as prizes to the winners – 4 return tickets from Subang to Terengganu and 6 return tickets from Subang to Langkawi.”

The bloggers arrived in style at Subang SkyPark Terminal on 23rd September with Firefly and was greeted at a welcome ceremony at KAPITAN KOPITIAM. The bloggers got a chance to mingle while enjoying refreshments (courtesy of KAPITAN KOPITIAM) before the journey begin.

Plus, we have our best pilots and cabin crew there to welcome them and for them to get a chance to know more about working with us.

Each blogger was also given a FIREFLY JERSEY to be worn during their 4 days tour at Selangor.

The George Town Ball is a major highlight in the month long celebration of the George Town Festival to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of its UNESCO World Heritage Site listing.

Ms Angelina Fernandez, Firefly’s Head of Marketing and Communications added that Patrizio’s music is adult contemporary, pop and oldies, and that his show will entertain and thrill all his local fans.  Firefly’s hosting of Patrizio in conjunction with the George Town Festival will further enhance and promote Malaysia as an entertainment destination.

Firefly now flies 56 flights a week into Penang from Subang; four times a week into Penang from Phuket; once a day from Medan and Banda Aceh respectively. Firefly is also mounting one additional daily flight before and after the Hari Raya holidays for the Subang – Kota Bharu sector.

Patrizio has a passion for languages, and as early as 17 years old, he already spoke fluent Italian, German, English, French, Spanish and Polish.

His career achievement is astonishing. His international debut album entitled, “The Italian”, was completed at the same Abbey Road Studios

Made famous by The Beatles in London and was accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. After its first release in February 2005, it reached the top ten on the pop charts in the United Kingdom, where it attained golden status after just one week, and was certified as platinum in South Africa, across Asia, New Zealand, some European countries and even reached triple platinum status in Australia.

But what quality separates Patrizio from other successful artistes? Is it the natural grace of his voice, his macho good looks, or the confident, casual, respectful attention that he gives to his audience? Firefly also announced some of its planned activities for rock fans in collaboration with TV3 and Hot and Fly FM as the official TV and radio for “Slash Live in Kuala Lumpur 2010”.

1)”Slash Look-A-Like” co-hosted by 8TV Quickie

Firefly will collaborate with 8TV Quickie to hold a “Slash Look-A-Like” contest .

“This contest will give the winning rock fans a chance to meet the legendary artiste and to watch the concert on 5 August. It is yet another “fun and vibrant” activity organized by Firefly in line with our tag line of “Your Community Airline” said Angelina.

This contest is open to all. The simple criteria for the contestants are as follows: Wear black shirt and pants; Leather jacket/pants; Rock star motives on clothes (e.g. Ed Hardy style); Similar Slash’s sunglasses; Torn jeans/vest/jacket ; Sneakers; Curly hair; Top Hat (points for similar motive on hat); Guitar-additional; Rock star attitude; Air guitar act.

A catwalk on stage is required for the contestants, and this is followed by performing an air guitar act for two minutes with songs from Guns N’ Roses. The top winner will be given a chance to meet their idol – Slash in person, attend his concert, and enjoy Firefly flights and its merchandises.

Firefly in collaboration with Hot FM will hold what might be the most exciting audition in Malaysia! In line with the tagline “Lebih Hangat Daripada Biasa” and “Your Community Airline”, both companies are in search for an amazing Malaysian young band to be one of the opening acts for guitar legend, Slash’s live concert in Kuala Lumpur this coming August. The winner of the “Bintang Rock Hot FM” search will grab the winning prize of 15 minutes of fame to perform their songs in front of both rock legends’ fans and other attractive Firefly prizes.

On 24th July, Hot FM and Firefly urge talented local young bands to join this once in a lifetime audition. Slash is one of the most distinctive and in-demand guitarists of the last 30 years, equally confident working in hard rock and pop.

As the lead guitarist for Guns N’ Roses, Slash cemented his reputation as a fluid, articulate player, but once he left that band during the ‘90s, he continued to build on his legacy by delivering high-profile guest spots on other people’s albums, not to mention signing on to be a part of the supergroup Velvet Revolver. Born July 23, 1965, Slash released his first solo album, Slash, in 2010. 50,000 unit his album was sold.

Firefly to offer RM1 one-way fare COMMUNITY airline, Firefly will offers its special Firefly Holiday Family packages and RM1 one-way Firefly mobile booking deals at the upcoming Malaysia Domestic Travel Fair (MDTF).

The packages, offered only on-site at the fair, will cater for big groups travelling together, be it families, friends or corporate/incentive trips and holidays groups, it said in a statement. Its RM1 one-way fare is for all domestic destinations except for flights to Langkawi. This promotion is only available on site and must be purchased via Firefly Mobile, which is Firefly’s newly introduced application.

The MDTF will be held here from May 14-16. Our focus is to encourage family and or group travel via packages that are affordable for everyone to explore our country’s exotic and wide variety of holidays spots,” said Angelina Fernandez, Firefly’s Head of Marketing and Communication.
