Subang, 14 Jan 2010 – Firefly is picking up its new year’s pace from where it left last year by increasing the frequency of flights from Subang to Singapore to cater to the current high demand on that route.

The new 5th frequency flight is now open for sale and the service will commence
from 28 March 2010, Firefly said in a statement today.

To celebrate the added frequency, Firefly is offering a promotional fare from
Subang to Singapore, from as low as RM100.

The current promotion also covers flights to all destinations from as low as RM50 and RM100 for domestic and international travels respectively. The special fare offer runs from now until Jan 21 for the travel period from Jan 21 to Oct 30 2010.

Promotional seats are limited and available on a first-come, first-served
basis, and made exclusively online via www.fireflyz.com.

“High loads and strong demand for this route have encouraged us to add our fifth frequency flight,” said Firefly’s head of Marketing and Communications, Angelina Fernandez.

Firefly anticipates to carry 1.3 million passengers by the year end.

Angelina emphasized that, “Firefly currently operates four daily flights to Singapore. We began our inaugural Singapore-Subang route with three flights daily effective July 1 in 2009, and subsequently a fourth frequency was added on July 12. This additional flight into Singapore further strengthens Firefly’s stronghold on commuters travelling for business and leisure on this route. Moreover, the high demand is an indication that travel has picked up significantly, and we are extremely pleased to be able to provide customers with more convenience and travel options.”

She further stressed the benefits of flying with Firefly whereby passengers have the convenience of flying from Skypark Subang, a city airport where their check-in process is completely hassle-free. Additionally, Firefly offers at no extra cost added values such as 20 kg of free check-in baggage allowance, assigned seating, and in-flight complimentary refreshment with snacks.

The travel industry had its share of bumps last year, like the global recession , the H1N1 scare and numerous natural disasters. Will things look up this year?

The year 2009 was a good one for avid travellers. Of course, some of us were a little restrained by the wobbly economy and the health scares. But the plunging air fares, hotel rates and value-for-money tours were just too good to pass up.

In any case, those of us on a budget switched to exploring our own backyard. The plus side? We got to see Asia with fresh eyes.

So what does the crystal ball augur for 2010? Can travel industry folks brave the Year of the Tiger with cautious optimism? And are travellers going to enjoy even better deals?

“If 2009 was ‘The Year of the Deal’, 2010 will be ‘The Year of Value’,” says travel analyst Yeoh Siew Hoon.

“Travellers will continue seeking value, not only in terms of price and benefits, but in terms of travel experience. These could range from voluntourism (volunteer holidays) and green travel to specific activity-based holidays.”

The Singapore-based travel editor says three things will define the scene in Asia: low cost, Asia and value.

“Low-cost airlines will dominate and continue to drive deals and change the way people live, work and play in Asia,” explains the Penang-born Malaysian with 25 years of experience in travel writing.

“It’s now possible to work in Singapore and live in Kuala Lumpur, for example, and commute to work, depending on the nature of your work and your income.”

Asia will be the main playground of Asians as new routes are being opened up by low-cost airlines such as Firefly, Yeoh adds.

Monday, August 24, 2009

So last weekend I went to KL to celebrate my darling cousin Esther’s birthday. We went up via Firefly and it was a good trip.

Firefly airlines land at Subang Airport which is a BIG PLUS as other airlines land at KLIA. It is so much more convenient that Firefly brings people to where they want to be on a domestic flight, and not to a God forsaken place such as sepang where the sun blazes your skin apart. Plus its an hour drive if anyone were to pick you up from the airport. Causes alot of inconvenience to you!

Subang is in the middle of everywhere, so for that, Thumbs up for you, Firefly!

I have though heard of many complaints that Firefly has the smallest aircraft and it is very unstable bla bla bla bla. To be honest, if you’re destined to die, you’re destined to die. Even if you’re in your own bathroom, you’ll have the same chances of dying as compared to you being in a tiny aircraft. Yes, I do agree that they do experience turbulence’s in air, but tell me, which air flight doesn’t? It’s machine versus Mother Nature and even the biggest Titanic sank because of it. So go figure. There is no such need putting down an airline for its size.

There have also been complaints of delays on sitting Firefly airlines, mostly due to weather problems. Isn’t it safer that you’re in the airport in the midst of a storm than trying to brave it to get to your destination? Even there is delay, I think you can find some compassion that other people’s lives are as important as yours, so that Firefly finds it reasonable to delay the flight till when the weather is safe to fly! So it’s your appointment or your safety/other people’s safety.

It’s funny how Firefly seems to be rushing for time. Me and my cousin Lilie figured it’s because it’s such a tiny aircraft, it needed more speed and such to enable it to take off. She’s an engineer, so she’s probably right! HAHAHA

So this is my description of how it flew!!!

Yes, it went straight forward, then straight up! Those are all sudden movements and it sometimes knocks our breaths our, but it is all very exciting!

Quite cute lar the pic, but that’s not for the faint hearted. The flight is quite smooth though.

Do you know why it’s called Firefly?

It’s cos they are tiny, and there are millions of them! (I should try to crack their name code. This is their motive in calling themselves Firefly so they can expand all their tiny flights all over the world! Cute!)

So when calling themselves Firefly, they are allowed to fly like this:

They like to swerve here and there, but I should think they have their own reason? Shouldn’t question it though. Oh well! As long as I am there on time, it’s all good!

Another big PLUS PLUS POINT :

They serve muffins and juice! FOR FREE! Some flights have to pay for even water ok! So ngiao jee!!!!!!!!!!

Some more the air stewardesses will smile sweetly at you and help you put your luggages on the top! And they also don’t charge for check-ins!!!!!! Wah so amazing.

They also fly to Ipoh, but that’s via Singapore, so I hope they open it via JB soon so I can go visit Cherry!!!!

And I hope they expand it to other countries as well.

Money-wise they aren’t very far away from other airlines. Sometimes they are pricier, depending on the period you buy the tickets. But all is good! I don’t have to land in KLIA anymore and BEG people to come pick me up!

WEEEEE!!! Puked out by Olivia Jo at 8:26 PM 5 comments

“Singapore offers experiences that are captivating beyond words”.At least that’s what written on the cover of my Singapore Guide Book. Some people call it great tourism branding but I just call it one heck of a good country to visit. I love KL, I love Malaysia but if I need a good weekend breakaway far from work and other daily stuff, I would choose Singapore definitely!

The only thing I hate about my many trips to Singapore is the traveling. I used to travel by bus and I’ve tried those executive/VIP express busses and it’s comfortable but the journey takes approximately 5 hours. That’s 10-hours for a return trip wasted being on the road out of 48-hours of weekend. And one way fare is RM90 in average!

(An old photo of me… don’t laugh!)

So when airlines start to offer low fares for flights to Singapore I was excited to have more options to spend my weekend in Singapore. Just recently Firefly has joined the fun and begins its flights to Singapore from Subang which offers me the best way to maximize my weekend in Singapore.

Yes!! no more 5-hours bus ride to Singapore or 1-hour drive to LCCT/KLIA. It’s only 15 minutes drive from Shah Alam to Subang and after a short 70 minutes flight, I’ll be in Singapore! And thanks to a well-planned schedule for Firefly Subang-Singapore flights, I can now leave Subang very early on Saturday (07:50am) and come back very late on Sunday (10:35pm) to maximize my weekend in Singapore and still get back on time for work on Monday.

I’m already planning my next 2D1N weekend breakaway trip to Singapore and here is the itinerary. Feel free to use it the next time you Firefly to Singapore

Note: Some of the photos used below are very ‘classic’ photos of mine. I know I look funny when I was younger (some say I still look funny now! Hehe), but try not to laugh too hard.
